What is netiquette?

Netiquette is a combination of the words internet and etiquette.  It means the correct or acceptable way of communicating on the internet.  This also means respecting other users’ views and displaying common courtesy when posting your views to online discussion groups.

Netiquette

When we are interacting with friends, family, and co-workers in the real world, we use unspoken rules and they help guide our conversations.  Over time, our social interactions have changed from face-to-face interactions to social networking on sites like Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, Friendster, and much more.  The same rules that are used in face-to-face interactions should apply when using social networking.  If a person would not say something face-to-face then it should not be said over the internet.

Cyber Bullying

Cyber bullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology. Examples of cyber bullying includes, but is not limited to mean text messages or emails, rumors sent by email or posted on social networking sites, and embarrassing pictures, videos, websites, or fake profiles.
Parents and kids can help prevent cyber bullying by exploring safe ways to use technology. Also when cyber bullying takes place, it should be documented and reported so it can be addressed.
